Information on the College Advising Policy and Banner
Some programs enforce the college’s advising policies for undergraduate students as described in the April 15, 2004 issue of the Bulletin using a feature in Banner that requires a student to see his or her adviser prior to being able to register.
The programs that use this feature in Banner are listed at the bottom of this page.
Some students who are in the programs participating must see their adviser prior to registration. Your adviser will give you a six-digit number called an "Advising PIN" (also referred to as "Alternate PIN" in Banner) that you must use to add or drop courses in Banner. The Advising PIN is not required to view all other information in Banner, such as financial aid, student accounts, or academic information.
NOTE: Not all students will require an Advising PIN to register!
The only students who will need an Advising PIN to register fall into two groups:
1. All new incoming transfer students. See more information on the Orientation Student Transfer Advisement web page.
2. All undeclared students and students in the participating programs who meet any the following criteria:
- In a pre-major program
- Have a cumulative GPA less than 2.0
- Will have earned 90 credit hours upon completion of the term(s) in progress
Students can find their assigned adviser’s name in Banner:
-
click on the Student link listed on the Main Menu page
-
click on the Student Records link on the Student page
-
click on the View Student Information link on the Student Records page
-
select registration term
-
view your assigned advisor name as it’s listed on the General Student Record page under the Primary Advisor heading
Students with a declared major who do not know who their adviser is or for whom no adviser has been entered in Banner should contact their major department.
Undeclared students who do not know who their adviser is or for whom no adviser has been entered in Banner can visit the Academic Advisement Center web site to find out who their adviser is, or visit the center in South Wing 100 (716) 878-5223.
Only advisers will provide alternate PINs to students.
