Academic Plan, 2009-2013 Progress:
An original draft of an Academic Plan was produced by the Provost’s Office based on wide-ranging discussions and working group reports developed through the College Planning Council in both the 2008-09 and 2009-10 academic years. It was agreed that the Academic Plan would seek to be a type of operational plan because the current Strategic Plan has an academic goal as its central purpose.
In early 2009 the provost gave an update on progress from the previous Academic Plan to CPC, and the original draft was developed. All aspects in the original plan were taken from the previous Academic Plan or were suggested from the CPC reports.
That draft was submitted to the Academic Plan Committee of the College Senate. The people on that committee then discussed the plan at length, revised it, and formulated a series of comments from others across campus. The version posted here is the latest draft, formulated based on the comments voiced to date by the committee and people across campus.
A major theme in the feedback was to develop a plan that could be accomplished in five years. The current plan, thus, has two parts. The first main section is an attempt to develop goals that can be accomplished in the next four-five years. The second part outlines ongoing goals and commitments of Academic Affairs.
We invite all comments and suggestions. Please send comments to Elisa Bergslien, chair of the APC, and Kevin Railey, interim provost.
