PETITIONS

Academic Appeals Petitions are the way you can appeal a college rule related to registration or graduation.  There are many rules you can appeal, and a few rules that cannot be appealed.  In order for an appeal to be heard, there must be an extenuating circumstance that has prevented you from completing the college requirement you are appealing.

Some of the college rules that are most frequently petitioned are:
* Changing your all-college graduation requirements
○Intellectual Foundations (IF) [new students entering BSC (or re-admitted BSC students) Fall 2006 – Present]; General Education 2000 (GE2K)  [students entering BSC Fall 2001 – Summer 2006]; or General Education Core (GEC) [students entering BSC prior to Fall 2001]

* Waiving all-college graduation requirements

* Waiving deadlines (see the Academic Calendar for this semester's important dates)
o Adding or Dropping Course
o Withdrawals from Courses
o Leaves of Absence, Medical Leaves, and Withdrawals from College
o Pass/Fail
o Incompletes

Please note: according to the BSC college catalogs, “students should not request a waiver of any regulations without strong evidence to justify the waiver.”  Therefore, petitions will only be accepted if official documentation of extenuating circumstances (i.e. strong evidence) is attached to the petition at the time of submission.
