After a petition is submitted, the Academic Standards Office refers the petition to various people around campus who may have important information to contribute to the appeal. Some examples of the comments we ask for are: instructors being asked to verify your class attendance, the Student Accounts Office being asked to comment on the financial impact of your request, or the Admissions Office being asked to comment on transfer credits.
After the referrals are gathered, your petition and all of the comments our office has gathered are submitted to the Academic Appeals Committee for review. The committee is made up of all the Associate Deans of the College, a representative from Admissions, a representative from the Registrar's Office, and the Assistant to the Dean for Academic Standards and Intervention.
Your petition is reviewed at the Academic Appeals Committee meeting based on the documentation you submitted and the referrals that were received. The Committee's decision is final. You can see that is very important to have a well-written, clearly documented petition submitted in order for your request to have the best chance at being approved.
