The AI Program is designed to identify and assist those students who are having academic difficulty at any point in their academic career at Buffalo State College. By identifying these students early on, the AI staff can address their needs, thereby increasing the likelihood of their success. One of our goals is to assist faculty and staff in improving the motivation and academic performance of students in an effort to better BSC retention rates.
Faculty, through regular contact with students, are the first to see the results of students problems which can manifest itself through low test and quiz scores, failure to turn in assignments, poor class attendance, and poor class participation.
Faculty often does not have the time to get to the root of each student's problem. Therefore, if you suspect a problem with a student, we will contact and meet with the student on an individual basis and help him or her seek solutions to their academic problems.
How the referral system works:
- Faculty refers students to the AI office.
- We contact the student for a consultation.
- We advise the student about ways to address their specific academic difficulties.
- Referrals to appropriate resources are made as needed.
