ACADEMIC SKILLS CENTER

What student couldn't use some special help once in a while?

Academic Skills Center of University College provides free tutoring and workshops for all Buffalo State students seeking supplemental instruction in their courses. Our team of professional tutors is ready to address questions regarding your coursework. Tutors meet with students one-on-one or in small groups, handling an array of subjects that include business, humanities, languages, math, science, statistics, and writing.

Referrals

Instructors who would like students to use our services should have them phone (878-4041) or visit our office in South Wing 330 to make an appointment. Instructors who would like the tutor to address some specific aspect of a course may fill out the Instructor Referral Form and have the student present it to the tutor at their meeting. (The referral form is a printable PDF file.)

Workshops

In addition to free tutoring, the ASC also presents a series of free workshops designed to enhance comprehension and study skills. Go to Workshops for current topics and registration information.

Math Comp Exam

The Academic Skills Center offers math tutoring to prepare students for the Mathematics Competency Examination. If you are required to take this exam, you may want to register for the preparatory tutoring. Go to Mathematics Competency Exam for more information about tutoring and taking the exam.

Web Sites

The ASC suggests web sites for self-help in writing and math. One site that addresses general questions for all writers and specific concerns of ESL students is an About.com site which deals with grammatical and stylistic rules of writing :  Writing Web Site. Tutoring in Research Documentation

The Academic Skills Center has tutors to help students with issues related specifically to Documentation in Essays and Research Papers. Whether your questions deal with MLA, APA, or some other style, or with in-text citations, Works Cited entries, or Reference sections, you can find answers by making an appointment with one of our writing tutors by calling 878-4041.
