Dr. Gaffin is acting as Interim Chair for the 2009-2010 Academic year.

Dennis Gaffin has worked, conducted research, and published in the areas of medical, ecological, and legal anthropology and the anthropology of religion. Before and during his university teaching, he has worked as an administrator, evaluator, program developer, and consultant for organizations such as courts, prisons, a psychiatric hospital and social service agencies. He conducted classic ethnographic fieldwork on the Faeroe Islands and maintains interests in North Atlantic and rural U.S. cultures. He is also a member of the graduate faculty affiliated with Buffalo State College's Great Lakes Center for Environmental Research and Education.

His publications include In Place: Spatial and Social Order in a Faeroe Island Community (Waveland 1996), From Bugging Out to Chilling Out (Culture, Medicine, and Psychiatry 1996), and Offending and Defending US Rural Place (Human Organization 1997)
