Gregory Smith Appointed to Mellon Conservation Science Professorship

Gregory D. Smith, Ph.D., has been appointed to Buffalo State College’s newly established Andrew W. Mellon Professorship in Conservation Science. The post was created from funds received by Buffalo State College’s Art Conservation Department from a six-year, $995,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The award reflects the Mellon Foundation’s recognition of the importance of continuing advances of science in conservation to the efforts of conservators in providing optimum care for the nation’s art and historic objects.  [more…]

Peforming Arts Center's $1.2 Million Renovation Nearing Completion

With the announcement of the 2005 Great Performers Series, The Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall, on the campus of Buffalo State College, is re-opening after eight months and $1.2 million in major technological upgrades and refurbishments. Tsunami Disaster Affects Buffalo State Students, Programs

Buffalo State currently has master’s degree programs in eight schools in areas affected by the earthquake and tsunamis that devastated countries along the Indian Ocean. The programs, coordinated by Carolyn Brunner, director of the International Learning Styles Center, typically enroll teachers who are pursuing master’s degrees in multidisciplinary studies. The Burchfield-Penney Art Center and Hispanics United of Buffalo, in cooperation with the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Antecesores and Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, present Art on the Hyphen: Cuban-American Art in Western New York State, an exhibition designed to introduce the spectator to the Cuban-American presence in New York State as it is manifested in works of art—including painting, sculpture, video and photography. The exhibition begins with an opening reception on Friday, January 14, 2005 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and is on view from January 15 through April 9, 2005. [more…]
