On a recent economic development tour of the Buffalo-Niagara region, New York's First Lady, Silda Wall Spitzer (center), visited the Buffalo State College campus for an update on the new Burchfield-Penney Art Center. "The First Lady was particularly impressed with the scope of the project and the scale of interior spaces," said Burchfield-Penney director, Ted Pietrzak (left), who gave the tour with Cindy Abbott Letro (right), chairperson of the Burchfield-Penney board of trustees. The Burchfield-Penney enters a new phase of construction as exterior cladding -- cast stone, zinc and black manganese brick - are applied in coming weeks to the 84,000 square-foot museum. William F. Wieczorek, Ph.D., of Amherst, N.Y., has been appointed to the Behavioral Genetics and Epidemiology Study Section for the Center for Scientific Review. Wieczorek, director, Buffalo State College Center for Health and Social Research, was selected for his demonstrated competence and achievements in biomedical research. Former Buffalo State quarterback Mike Mikolaichik led the Rochester Raiders to the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) Championship on Saturday at Rochester's Blue Cross Arena. The Raiders defeated the visiting Port Huron Pirates, 37-27, for their first title, snapping the Pirates' 26-game winning-streak. Mikolaichik completed 9 of 13 passes for 102 yards. [more…]
