Buffalo State College students, faculty, and
staff provide a helping hand to the community via a blood
drive sponsored by the Black Active Minds.
The majority of donated blood will be used
by hospitals in Western New York while being stored by the
American Red Cross in Rochester New York. The remaining
contributions will be used by the American Red Cross as
emergency military relief for the war in Iraq.
Dr. Theresa Stephan Hains, a doctor at the
Weigel Health Center, believes donating blood is great.
“You can’t say anything bad about giving a life-saving
gift,” she said.
Buffalo State student Carrie Lynch’s
life is affected by blood donations. Lynch’s grandmother
receives a blood transfusion once a week to aid in her battle
with anemia. “I am grateful to everyone person who
contributes blood,” says Lynch.
Buffalo State College is a prime spot for
donating blood because students fall into the prime requirements
which are:
• 17 years old or older.
• weigh 110 pounds or more
• be in good health
Future events for BAM include an ice cream
social (April 8,10pm-2am in the student union), Buffalo
State College/Buffalo Community Service Day (April 23rd).
