Need an outlet to show off your Italian speaking
skills?
Buffalo State College’s International Education Office is
presenting opportunities for students to travel to several countries,
including England, France and Australia.
The IEO recently held an information meeting for students interested
in traveling to Siena as an exchange student or as a study-abroad
student.
“This is a wonderful, magical experience for all students
involved to get a chance to see a majestic land and get a first-class
education,” said IEO Director Lee Ann Grace.
Students who decide to enter the program get a chance to explore
many of Italy’s great attractions in such places as Florence
and Rome to study art, architecture and Italian culture. But as
beautiful as the trip sounds, students at the meeting had their
share of concerns.
Students voiced many concerns, mainly the need to finance the
trip.
“It would be an awesome experience to do,” said Tina
McKenzie, a sophomore theater major. “But financially, I
don’t know how I’d pull it off.”
Semesters in Italy run about $6,900 for New York state residents
and $9,900 for non-residents in the exchange programs. Study abroad
students who live in New York pay $9,800 for the trip, which includes
housing with an Italian family, and not in the dorms of Siena
College, where exchange students would normally stay. Non-residential
students pay $9,900. All costs include:
• tuition
• college fees
• housing
• classes
• meals
Students interested in the trip must have a GPA of 2.5 and one
semester of college-level Italian. Deadlines for applying are
April 1st for the fall semester and Nov. 1st for spring semester.
