The Honors Program, rewarding “students who really want to understand”

Score an 1100 on the SAT, have a GPA of 90 or higher in high school or rank in the top 10 percent in the high school class, or are a transfer student with a 3.5 or higher GPA? If all the answers to these requirements are yes, then check out the All College Honors Program.


All incoming freshmen, second-semester freshmen and transfer students looking to be rewarded for their smarts should check out the honors program at Buffalo State College.


The program benefits its participants, students are eligible for all sorts of rewards. Such as financial benefits to all full-time honors students of $1,000 per semester in addition to traditional financial aid programs. Some honors students financial obligations like tuition, room and board, books, etc. are covered, depending on financial aid eligibility.


The honors program also sponsors study abroad and national exchange programs. Buffalo State sponsors international programs in:
• Australia
• England
• The Netherlands
• Italy
• Puerto Rico
• Quebec, Canada
• Spain
• and about 300 SUNY-sponsored programs around the world


Apply to the honors program is easy, send an application to the SUNY Application Processing Center, with Buffalo State designated as the chosen school, by Dec. 15.


All students admitted to the program complete seven classes specifically designed for honors students.


“In honors classes, participants have intelligent discussions with students who really want to understand,” says student Kristen Hill.

The classes are:
• HON 100 Introduction to the program.
• HON 101 Humanities Seminar
• HON 102 Natural Science Seminar
• HON 103 Arts Seminar
• HON 301 Values and Ethics Seminar
• HON 302 Social Sciences Seminar
• HON 400 Capstone Colloquium


“I teach literature, film, humanities, and honors classes, and through cinematography, I hope to show students what a society is all about,” says Honors Program Director Andrea Guiati.


“The professors who teach the honors classes teach their passion, so they inspire you,” says student Pamela Szefler.
