Hip Hop is the revolution

Buffalo State Colleges own Wise Mecca and fellow DeepThinka Records recording artists Rhyson Hall performed at Buffalo State College's Hip Hop is the Revolution!

The rally took place at 7pm, October 27 in the BSC Campbell Student Union, and was hosted by University at Buffalo professor Kush Bhardwaj with DJ Cutler providing the sounds for the evening.

Said Event Coordinator Eric Walker, the rally was “a civic engagement performance that tried to make the connections between pressing social issues, the local realities of policy decisions, and the very real need to join a progressive struggle for human dignity.”

Also appearing live were:

  • DJs
  • vocalists
  • emcees and poets; including: Q-Boogie, 3rd, Mista Lion, Pseudo Slang, Stockbridge, S'Luv, DJ Niq, Jai Banx and Vendetta.

Currently a student at BSC, songstress/emcee Wise Mecca learned to articulate pain and struggle through her music from the streets of Buffalo. She touches not only on social, cultural and political topics but also average everyday issues that today's women face.

Buffalo born, bred, and educated artist Rhyson (Reason) Hall was asked where he gets his inspiration for his songs.

“I build my lyrical display around the economical and political torments of the city that I love”, he said.

His debut 12' single, “Still Raw”, is scheduled to hit United States and Canadian radio at the end of October.

Both DeepThinka Records artists are known to be masterful in the art of entertainment better known as Hip Hop. The pair has performed at the UB Spring Fest, the Kings and Queens of the Iron Mic in Cleveland, the Rap Up the Vote High School tour and opened for artists like Raekwon and most recently for Ghostface of Wu Tang Clan, the Legendary Kool G Rap, RA the Rugged man, and Snoop Dogg; just to name a few.
