After months of lethargic activity the computing center is hopping again.
The Computing Center was moved from Twin Rise to the E.H Butler library in May it has seen an influx of student questions since.
Jennifer Dachauer, manager of the Computing Center, said the convenience of the new location made it attractive to Buffalo State College faculty and students.
“I think it’s a better place for the students to use on campus,” she said. “This place seems to be more centrally located.”
Now the computer help desk is part of the information commons at the library. The desk also serves as a call center to help faculty and students with computer problems they might encounter.
Dachauer said most of the computer questions are done over the phone and include:
- problems logging on to a computer
- faculty assistance with electronic equipment in classrooms
- help with logging on to programs like Sabre and Blackboard
Marsha Jurkowski, supervisor of information commons, was pleased the Computing Center now works in conjunction with the library.
“Its made things easier for the students,” she said. “In the past, students have had problems with their username and password and had to go to Twin Rise.”
The library also has student proctors to help with strictly computer application problems such as:
- word processing
- spreadsheets
- accessing email
The Computing Center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and can be reached at
(716) 878-4357.
