West Side renovation

By Christian Gardner

Despite Eckerd’s Druge Store being mixed with buildings constructed decades ago, the stores’ appearance pleases  most residents on the West Side of Buffalo.

As a City of Buffalo resident living on the West Side, how do you feel about the Eckerd’s drug store on West Ferry and Grant street moving into a community with dilapidated buildings?

“They tore a bunch of old buildings down and put up a new one and it totally changed the corner for the better.”

  • Ray McClure

“I think it’s great. The whole block was just abandoned buildings and crackheads. Now there is a new building there. It’s the best thing to happen to this neighborhood.”

- Robert Beiber

“Well I feel fine about it. I think the older community here is run down and it adds something nicer.”

- Nicholas Baldwin

“I say it is good because as time progresses new buildings will be put up anyway. It’s 300 percent OK with me.”

- Mike Cotton

“I think it’s good, because people can be closer to something that they need.”

- Zakariah Hassan

“It’s nice to renovate the older buildings. If they can’t, it’s understandable to try and renovate, rather than tear down everything. This way everyone gets what they want. Why not do that? The area needs businesses.”

- Jessica Corey

“Well it gives the corner a facelift and gives others incentive to make other things look nicer. If new businesses utilize old buildings it will rectify what is going on.”

- Paul Coleman
