Iridescent Art appears on campus

Gail McCarthy www.gailmccarthy.com/index.html, a ceramic artist from Buffalo, has been working exclusively with iridescent pottery for 10 years.She will be showing at Burchfield-Penney Art Center www.burchfield-penney.org  now through Feb. 6, 2006.

Burchfield-Penney Art Center www.buffalostate.edu/directions.xml is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

McCarthy’s exhibit, Fire and Light, is a combination of ceramic pottery embossed with glossy, iridescent paint.  

Bill Lechin, facilities manager of the Burchfield-Penney Art Center said: “Gail has been featured in several biannual craft expositions and shows her work here at least every two years,”

Before recently moving to Florida, McCarthy was an art instructor at Niagara Community College.

An art student from Buffalo State College said: “For an art class, we have to discuss how her art affects society and in turn how society affects art.”

Tickets are $5 general admission with the exception of members, staff, faculty and Buffalo State College students.
