The door has finally
opened for a new exhibit for the first time by the wood
design department.
Upton
Gallery,
will be hosting a wood furniture exhibit by Thomas
Stender, artist/professor.
Walking
into Upton Gallery, wooden chairs and
tables made of oak and maple are constructed from everyday
materials.
An art student from
Buffalo State College when asked how the exhibits made
them feel, said, “Relaxed.
Very Feng Shui.”
An
art student from Erie Community College who is considering
transferring to Buffalo State College under the graphic
design department said; “I thought that the exhibit
was very aesthetically pleasing and that the designs were
truly original.”
When asked why to show at Upton
Gallery rather than Albright-Knox or Burchfield-Penny Stender
said; “They wanted to give me a one-man show and
I accepted it. I filled an empty spot in the schedule
of the studio.”
Stender
has been in the business of what he calls “craft
art” for the past 30 years. “Finding whatever
is available for my projects is essential.” Stender
stated. In
the beginning of his career, Stender said he struggled
with design. “The origin of my work is complicated.”
His
show at Upton Gallery will be running
through Sept. 23rd.
