The
fall not only kicks off the beginning of a new school year
at Buffalo
State College, but also the start of the 2005-06 Great
Performers Series.
Promoters expect
Richard Elliot to bring in a full house at BSC’s Rockwell
Hall. Elliot, a
chart-topping jazz musician recently released his latest
album in June 2005. Elliot is just one of the six acts
who will be performing at the series.
This
year marks the fifth anniversary of the M&T
Bank sponsored event, and some of its previous artists
will be performing, including Steve
Tyrell, A
Rockapella Holiday and Barra
MacNeils, who all performed in 2003. Other
artists on the lineup are:
The Performing
Arts Center at BSC has scheduled the series of eight
shows to run from this October
to April 2006, with about one concert
a month. It’s Director of Operations
Jeff Marsha says one of the reasons for the series is
to bring cultural stimulation to the campus and
the community.
According to the
Performing Arts Center’s
web site, regular tickets for this year’s series
range from $25 to $30. BSC faculty and staff can buy tickets
for $25 to $27.
However, BSC students may take advantage
of a student rush ticket, which is a new
idea this year. These tickets cost $15, if
students arrive by 7 p.m., and are only available to BSC
students. There is no limitation on the type of seating
available.
This year’s series lasts longer
than last year’s because of repairs that were being
made at Rockwell Hall during the fall 2004 semester. Marsha
says audience members can expect to see different
and better lighting, silhouettes, shapes and
special effects from
last year’s performance. There is a new sound system
as well.
According to Marsha,
the shows’ attendance
have increased in popularity since they started
and that Steve Tyrell’s
performance is expected to sell out. He also said that
each show lasts about two hours with an intermission
that and artists may be signing pictures and autographs
afterward. There may also be various artists’ CDs
and posters for sale.
