Multicultural Night comes to Buffalo State
By Beth Steinbruckner

The Asian Student Organization will sponsor an evening of free food, dance, martial arts and poetry in the Student Union.

Multicultural Night will begin at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the Social Hall of the Student Union. The event is organized by the Asian Student Organization and the International Student Organization . The event features a mix of cultures, specifically Asian traditions, said Jude Jayatilleke, the president of the International Student Organization.

The ASO has held the Multicultural Night in the past, said Champey Kong, the ASO president. This year they teamed up with the ISO to get more students involved.

Kong said the event usually draws about 50 students, this year, because of the ISO's involvement she expects more people. The evening is open to the public.

Events planned for the evening are:

  • poetry read by students
  • a fashion show , with students wearing modern clothing
  • two martial arts performances, both traditional and modern
  • students will discuss martial arts and self-defense

Martial arts performances are included every year, this year Kong says they have been working hard to make their routine better than ever.

“The performance will be amazing,” Kong said. “They are going to perform their best.”

There will be free food from Cambodian, Indian and Chinese cuisine , said Jayatilleke.
