Never in his wildest dreams did
Bert McCracken, lead singer of the Used, ever realize that
his boyhood dreams would come true. He and the rest of his
band grew up in the little town of Orem, Utah, where they
surmounted homelessness, drugs and alcohol, and close-minded
individuals who didn’t believe in the ”rock”
music they were playing. The band would try to play out
around various venues in Utah, and they wouldn’t be
invited back. Venue after venue turned the band away because
it wasn't a country band.
The Used was a rock band, and a high energy one at that.
The band’s debut self titled CD is in stores now and
includes 13 anthems and ballads that is evident to the bands
intensity. Maximum Rock and Roll a well established magazine
said in a review that the band’s CD includes crashing
rhythms, great melodies, catchy lyrics, and dynamic vocals
making it appealing to anyone. One of the tracks titled
The Taste of Ink states that this could be a chance to break
out. The Used has done more than break out, they have taken
over. They will be at Buffalo State College on April 24th
for the Colleges annual Spring fest. Headlining this year’s
spring fest is legendary hip-hop artists The Roots with
support from alternative rock artist Andrew WK, and local
groups’ one world Tribe, and 5 years gone.
