By the time spring break at Buffalo State College began on April 5, the semester was 11 weeks old, making several students feel the school should extend the break for a few extra days.
Tim Kraus, a senior at BSC , said even though he worked at Old Navy during his week away from BSC, he enjoyed the time off.
“It was good to get away from school for a while,” he said. “I wish it was another week longer, though.”
Here are the spring break dates of some other area colleges :
- University at Buffalo March 13-21
- Daemen College March 20-28
- Niagara University April 8-12
- Canisius College March 13-21
- Erie Community College April 7-18
- Niagara Community College April 9-18
* All dates include Saturday and Sunday
Compared to the other schools listed, BSC had the median amount of days off for spring break, with nine. ECC has the most days off out of the colleges listed, with 12.
The College Senate produces the academic calendar at BSC, but was not available when attempted to be reached by phone.
Marianne Mazur, secretary of the communication department, said the timing of spring break was probably easier for families because it was the week before Easter.
Mazur would have liked to have the break earlier in the semester, but felt the length was perfect, because she said students may now feel rushed with only several weeks left in the school year.
“Graduation announcements were sent out in e-mails during the break and now that students are back, registration will begin, there is just too much happening,” Mazur said. “Its just way too chaotic.”
Gina Pennock however, is a BSC sophomore who was able to travel to Toronto during the vacation to attend a fashion show and a party and was pleased about the timing of BSC's spring break.
“I think it was at a good time, but I think it should have been longer,” Pennock said. “I think it (spring break) should be about three days longer, that would be nice.”
