Next stop New York City!

For college students who attend school away from home each break can put a tremendous burden on their wallets. Buffalo State College students come from New York City and the rest of the country. The problem is for those students is there is limited housing on campus for students who don't want to go home. Even if they decide to stay, there is a fee.
With each break students have to weigh their options. Either to drive, take a bus, take a plane, take a train or beg a ride.
However, some have found a sixth option . Those students get together and charter a bus, which offers them a cheaper price than the usual price of Jet Blue, Greyhound or Amtrak.
These are the prices from Buffalo to NYC:
- Jet Blue – $ 80- $100 one-way (the price depends upon the time the ticket is purchased)
- Greyhound - $69 one-way
- Amtrak – round-trip $160
All these prices don't include taxi fare $ 22
Compare these prices to the charter bus to NYC that is $65 round-trip with pick-up at Grover Cleveland Hall and drop-off in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx. The bus only goes to New York City.
Rides to New York City started in 1997 by a student at BSC but didn't last. Now, BSC student Everard Shaw, who is also the bus coordinator, restarted the cheap ride to NYC in 2000.
Shaw's business doesn't need permission from BSC because he has an independent contract and never uses the school's name when promoting the bus. Each break approximately 100 students on two buses travel to NYC.
“When I first started, I thought that there are so many students who needed an affordable way home. Although I have a car, I decided to give students a cheaper way and, as a graduating senior, I intend to teach someone else the business so in my absence there is cheaper transportation,” said Shaw.
“Seeing that most college students, like me, don't have that much money, this is the most affordable way for me to get home. It's not as fast as the plane, but it's affordable,” said Ivory Miller.
