Track and field in Georgia

The Buffalo State track and field team started the outdoor season at the Emory Classic in Atlanta on the Georgia Tech campus. With 43 points, the men's team placed seventh of 29 teams and the women's team tied for 19 th of 25 teams with eight points.

Sophomore Justin Muise once again captured the spotlight at the meet. He placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a crushing time of 53.34 just missing his record by .28 set back in the 2003 season. Also, with a time of 47.93, he finished second in the 400-meter dash. Again, he just missed his record by .87 set back in 2003.

Also having a strong performance was freshman Ken Ciolek. He placed second in the javelin, throwing 53.49 meters. Ciolek also placed third in the high jump with a leap of 6-feet, 5-inches and fifth in the triple jump at 13.58 meters.

The women's team broke two BSC records . Freshman Sarah Gedraitis broke a 10-year-old record in the hammer throw with a distance of 31.09m placing her in 10 th . The previous record was a whopping distance of 23.74m by Jennifer Rehberg back in 1994.

Mercedes Roper, Desi Gibson, Linda Williams and Keyia Thompkins broke an 18-year old record in the 4x100 . They placed in seventh with a time of 49.65. The previous record back in 1986 was 50.90 held by Kim Jackson, Raquel Smith, Tricia Morton and Val Dawson. The 4x100 team was just recognized as BSC Athletes of the Week.
