By Eve Wackett

Buffalo State College’s communication department inducted Lou Michel and Kevin Cusick into its Hall of Fame for 2003.

Michel, a 1977 BSC graduate, is an author and reporter for The Buffalo News.

Cusick, a 1984 BSC graduate, is a New York City broadcaster who runs KC Productions in NYC.

Janet Ramsey, the department chairperson, presented the awards to the winners during ceremonies held in the Student Union earlier in April.

“As you can see, I have great deal to be grateful for. And for all the young people here, my advice is never stop trying. Good things will come your way. That's a promise. You will experience things beyond your wildest dreams.” Michel said at the end of his acceptance speech.

Michel was honored for his excellence in journalism; he is co-author of American Terrorist: Timothy McVeigh & the Tragedy at Oklahoma City.

Cusick is a winner of six Emmy Awards for TV production and has participated in seven Olympic telecasts. Cusick was honored for his excellence in broadcasting.

Michel and Cusick are the 9th and 10th inductees into the Hall of Fame since the department began to recognize the achievements of alumni.

Also honored at the ceremony were the top award-winners in their majors:

  • Jacqueline Gartenman, Dean’s Award for Excellence in Communication.
  • Stacey Shepard, journalism
  • Rachel George, public communication
  • Kate Fisher, broadcasting
  • Christina Luke, communication studies
