Buffalo
State College’s communication department inducted
Lou
Michel and Kevin Cusick into its Hall
of Fame for 2003.
Michel, a 1977 BSC graduate, is an author
and reporter for The
Buffalo News.
Cusick, a 1984 BSC graduate, is a New York
City broadcaster who runs KC Productions in NYC.
Janet Ramsey, the department
chairperson, presented the awards to the winners during
ceremonies held in the Student Union earlier in April.
“As you can see, I have great deal to
be grateful for. And for all the young people here, my advice
is never stop trying. Good things will come your way. That's
a promise. You will experience things beyond your wildest
dreams.” Michel said at the end of his acceptance
speech.
Michel was honored for his excellence in journalism;
he is co-author of American Terrorist: Timothy McVeigh &
the Tragedy at Oklahoma City.
Cusick is a winner of six Emmy Awards for
TV production and has participated in seven Olympic telecasts.
Cusick was honored for his excellence in broadcasting.
Michel and Cusick are the 9th and 10th inductees
into the Hall of Fame since the department began to recognize
the achievements of alumni.
Also honored at the ceremony were the top
award-winners in their majors:
- Jacqueline Gartenman, Dean’s
Award for Excellence in Communication.
- Stacey Shepard, journalism
- Rachel George, public communication
- Kate Fisher, broadcasting
- Christina Luke, communication studies
