The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Delta Epsilon Chapter, invites everyone to its 16 th annual Alpha Cabaret on April 23 rd . The cabaret is an annual banquet that honors the brothers of the fraternity for the community service they have performed. During the cabaret, performances will be put on such as:
- step show
- Miss Cabaret pageant
- African drummers
- poetry
- singing
- music
This event will be hosted by chapter President Raffaello Brown, who helped establish the fraternity on campus last semester.
It's open to the public for that it shows the community what we are about, Brown said. We just want to do something for the community because we are a community service organization.
The Alphas are the first intercollegiate African- American Greek- letter fraternity. It was established at Cornell University in Ithaca on Dec. 4 th , 1906. A number of historical African-American men are brothers of this fraternity. Members include:
- Martin Luther King Jr.
- W.E.B. Dubois
- Thurgood Marshall
- Paul Robeson
- Sidney Poitier
I'm proud to be a part of this organization because it survived through times in a society where a black person was held down and it was still able to stand steadfast and keep everything moving for the black man today, Brown said.
I'm going to support the men of Alpha Phi Alpha because I think they are distinctive gentlemen that I believe bring forward positive characteristics, stated BSC student Stephannie Samuel.
Samuel has assisted and supported the fraternity since it was first established on Buffalo State's campus.
The cabaret will be held at Michael's Banquet Facility at 485 Southwestern Blvd. in Hamburg. Those who have not purchased their tickets in advance can still attend and pay at the door. Tickets will be $25. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will be served promptly at 8:30.
