Packing up and moving out

Storage! With only a few weeks left in the semester, students have to find a place to place their belongings. Have you ever wondered why colleges don't provide affordable and convenient storage?
To get an answer, I called Resident Life Director Kris Kaufman.
He said that in the past Buffalo State College provided students space for storage, but now there are no places on campus to store things, except for students who intend to stay for the summer.
That former extra space is now used as computer labs and some house mechanical equipment that contractors use in the summer if a pipe breaks or electrical problem occur. Also, in 2000, BSC hired a maintenance staff so one of the buildings was renovated into a workroom. Furthermore, there is no way to safeguard a student's belongings during the summer so localized storage is not possible.
“During the summer, dormitories are renovated so students are unable to store their belongings in the rooms,” said Maurine Baker-Stein, an Instructional Resources staffer.
Student Michelle Harris said: “I don't believe it is right that there is no storage provided for students on campus. Each semester BSC becomes more and more expensive; students even had to give a $100 deposit for room sign up. It's ridiculous-- between attending classes, packing up, finding storage and being financially drained, BSC not providing storage is wrong. Many of the students on campus are from New York City and can't ship their belongings back and forth or pay for storage--so what should they do with their stuff?”
Ivory Miller stores her belonging at her roommate's home in Rochester. Mario LaBeach intends on storing his belonging at UHaul. Students who graduate in May can use services such as Universal Shipping or UPS or UHaul to ship their belongings home.
- Universal Shipping- $50 storage / $125 shipping
- UPS- price depends on the weight of the items
It's very costly to store your stuff each summer. Prices range from $ 29.95 for a 4x4x4 unit to $114.95 for a 16x8x8 unit. In the telephone directory there is a list on storage areas, which includes:
