The Non-Traditional Students Organization
is located in Cassety Hall room 146, where
you will find a friendly atmosphere, the company of other
adult students, and a free cup of coffee. There’s
a study lounge, microwave, refrigerator and a chat room,
all for the use of N.T.S.O. members.
A non-traditional student is defined as any
student that didn’t go directly to college after high
school. The mission of the N.T.S.O is to offer its fellow
students a support system, which will enrich their educational
experience.
According to Jason Parker, N.T.S.O
President the average student age at Buffalo State
College is 24. Buffalo State has approximately 200
non-traditional students, 50 which are active N.T S.O members.
“It’s hard to come back to school
when you’re older, says Beth Dressler, a non-traditional
Buffalo State graduate. Having a place on campus that understands
the nontraditional students’ situation is great. These
people know how hard it is to return to school when you
have a full time job, a mortgage payment or children. You
have a totally different set of obstacles than the eighteen
year old that just graduated from high school. Sometimes
you just need someone to talk to that’s in the same
situation.”
N.T.S.O office hours are 7 a.m. till
9.p.m. Monday through Friday.
For more information about N.T.S.O you can contact their
office at 878-4034 or stop in at Cassety 146.
