Grades will be available online
By Katrina Whitlow

Grading online using SABRE may be in affect very soon. According to the SABRE Web site, faculty have already begun preparing for the new grading feature. This feature could be available as early as this fall semester.

So what does this mean to students? Grading online would eliminate the traditional report cards that get sent to their homes. Although there will be report cards sent home for this semester. It will also help students keep track of their grades by accessing them online.

Many students are just now getting comfortable with using SABRE to register for classes. But how will students fell about also receiving their grades through SABRE?

After asking several students I found that six out of 10 students believed that grades online would be very resourceful and useful.

“I think it's a great idea because I have friends at other schools out of town that already have similar services. It beats having to search for your grades when they're posted in a classroom,” said Ronald Vasquecz.

“This feature will take way from interpersonal relationships with your professor because everything you need to know about your class will be available online. I am not in favor of the change,” said Nikiaya Bolden.

Grades have previously been posted for some classes through Black Board, or professor's Web sites. Very soon this feature on SABRE will make it possible for students to view their grades in all classes.

Many schools in New York state already use web sites similar to SABRE:

  • Alfred State University
  • Canisius College
  • Medaille College
  • Niagara University
