Hillary Clinton comes to Buffalo State College
By Jordan Iannuzzelli

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton signed copies of her book “Living History” at the Barnes & Noble book store at Buffalo State College on April 23. The BSC Events Management Office worked with the bookstore and the Secret Service organizing this event.

Lynn Puma is the manager of the BSC book store. Puma said that bringing Clinton in was not done by BSC , but that the book signing was set up by the Barnes & Noble corporate office.

Puma said that Clinton and her book publisher Simon and Schuster wanted to do book signings at a few different Barnes & Noble stores that were on college campuses. BSC was one of the sites chosen because Clinton wanted to visit colleges in New York.

Thomas Coates is the director of the BSC EMO. Coates said that the EMO “works together with all groups holding any functions on campus.” Coates said the EMO was very involved with organizing Clinton's visit.

“We tried to make the event the most pleasant experience possible,” said Coates. “We made sure that the college was well represented.”

One of the main things the EMO did was to make sure the BSC banners were in the right position behind Clinton so they would be seen in any media shots taken at the event.

The EMO also had to work hand-in-hand with the Secret Service .

“We had to organize the University Police with the Secret Service,” said Coates. “The Secret Service had different demands that we had to comply with. One of those was to set up the black curtains around the windows.”

Coates said that other jobs the EMO had to care of included setting up parking, making sure the event didn't violate any fire codes, and lining up the people who came to have their books signed.

Clinton is currently on this book signing tour because “Living History” has been re-released in paperback and it includes a new four page afterword and a reading-group guide.
