Extended hours at Butler Library have made
studying more convenient for Buffalo State College night
owls.
As of Jan 27th, evening hours at Butler Library were extended
from 11p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Library access
will be limited to the first floor, where reference books,
periodicals, photocopiers, printers and computers will be
available. Admission between the hours of 11 p.m. and 2
a.m. will be limited to current Buffalo State students,
faculty or staff members. You must have a valid SUNY card
to be admitted during this time. No exceptions will be made.
Extended hours are new this semester and, according to SUNY
student Lesia Minorczyk, perhaps in part due to the 300-person
sit-in held on campus last November. Ms. Minorczyk frequently
uses the library late at night. “I work during the
day, so the extended hours are great for me.” she
said.
According to the Annual Report to Academic Affairs, general
library use has been steadily increasing during the past
two years. Library use is up 5 percent this year alone and
up 25 percent over the past two years. According to Susan
Jaworski, a library clerk at Butler, this increase is due
in part to the availability of additional computers and
printers.
There are 136 workstations available at Butler, and the
assistance of computer proctors is available during all
hours of operation. These services are made possible due
to additional funding provided by Computer Services.
For those who burn the other end of the candle, in addition
to the late night hours, opening times have been rolled
back to 7:30a.m. Monday through Friday. The library is open
114 hours a week in an effort to accommodate all of its
patrons. For more information about hours of operation call
878-6302 or go to www.buffalostate.edu/library/info/hours2.html
