The March 17th unveiling of the SABRE program
will bring a new found comfort to Buffalo State College’s
registration process.
“The plan is to bring an end
to the use of the bubble sheets for the students (while
registering),” said Sharon Cramer, executive director
of SABRE.
Dr. Cramer’s words are encouraging
to any student who has endured the dreaded registration
process.
“I think online registration
will be great,” said Nick Reed, a sophomore forensic
chemistry major. “I do, however, worry about first-
year flaws the program may have.”
The SABRE team has been doing its research
for almost three and a half years. Unlike the University
at Buffalo’s program, which was designed by faculty
members there, Buffalo State sought out the best programs
around the country. University at Buffalo students often
have troubles when classes have been closed out and if too
many people are attempting to register at the same time.
Dr. Cramer says Buffalo State’s program will not have
similar flaws.
“We are currently exploring an
electronic wait-list for students who come across closed
courses. We have already installed a load balancer that
will keep the program up to speed when as many as 1,000
students are registering at the same time,” Dr. Cramer
said.
Students who are in honors programs or those
who are fall athletes will have first crack at online registration
with Priority Registration that begins April 16th. All other
students will have their first shot at it beginning April
22nd.
“It’s too bad it took so
long for online registration to get here, but it will definitely
be helpful while I continue on my way here toward getting
my Master’s (degree),” said graduate student
Sarah Bifaro.
