Have you ever been in a relationship where
you were hurt?
Have you ever gone out and drank to the point where you
can't remember anything the next day?
There is help for you. Buffalo State College
offers the "Get Real" program that allows students
and faculty to be educated on some of the problems that
may occur in their lives. Relationship violence, intoxication,
and date rape drugs are just a few of the many topics covered
in the seminars.
When Jan started dating Fred she never noticed
the controlling side of him. She fell for the sweet guy
she once knew. Everything changed when Jan
couldn’t even hang out with her friends anymore. When
she did Fred would make her cry and feel guilty for absolutely
nothing.
For one college student, her long-awaited
school dance turned out to be one of the worst nights of
her life. She woke up the next morning completely naked,
in her own vomit, not remembering one thing that happened
to her. She was the victim of a date rape drug.
A 22-year-old college student went out with
his friends on a normal Saturday night, decided to have
a few beers, and thought it was OK to drive home. He totaled
his car. He could have killed not only himself but the passengers
and any innocent person. He won’t drive again for
at least 10 years if not longer.
Situations like these happen every day all
over the country, and there is a way to
prevent ourselves from being a victim of such acts. The
"Get Real" program at Buffalo
State College will have numerous meetings starting this
month in the Underground Student Café located in
the Student Union. Everyone is welcome to attend. If you
have any questions contact Tammy Kresge at 878-6727 for
more information. No registration is needed, all you have
to do is show up on one of the following days: February
11, March 4, 11, April 1, 15. All meetings start at 8:30
pm.
