WBNY goes local on Thursdays

By Leslie Baer

Probably the two most common phrases out of every college student’s mouth is “there’s nothing to do” and “I have no money”. Well, on Thursday nights there is no longer an excuse to complain, thanks to WBNY’s Local Show’s Glorified Rehearsal. The Local Show takes place every Thursday at 9:30 p.m. in the WBNY studio (in 220 Campbell Student Union). It can also be heard live on WBNY 91.3 FM. Best of all, it’s free to everyone!

This show is a great way to get into and keep up on Buffalo’s music scene. According to Jenny B., who works the local show on Thursday nights, it has been going on for about five years or so, but it doesn’t seem that many students are aware of it.

“Thursday nights it’s usually just the band that comes down to the station and plays over the air, sometimes they have a following but nothing too big,” said Jenny. Last week, a show was played by Hook Generation. Some of the bands that will be performing in upcoming weeks are:

  • March 6—Dinkus 9
  • March 13—Post
  • March 27—Skip Snatcher
Some other bands coming later are “Adelaide, (who was) formerly McLurg Family Singers and more,” said Jenny.

Anyone who wants to can attend these shows, or listen to WBNY every Thursday at 9:30 to hear the live show. The band “plays and gets interviewed live on the air,” said Jenny.
