New to the airwaves is the S.A.D.E show, part of the GET REAL series at Buffalo State College. S.A.D.E. will air 6 p.m. Monday night on WBNY -FM 91.3, the student- run radio station.
The show will feature a call-in format titled “Sex, Drugs, Alcohol and Everything in-between.” It is designed to make students feel comfortable talking about the issues they encounter in the college community while remaining anonymous.
“A lot of the time students feel embarrassed to come forward and ask advice on these topics” says Tammy Kresge, coordinator for alcohol and drug prevention at Weigel Health Center.
Kresge, along with Gina de Peralta Thorn, health educator, will be on air. Not only will there be professional answers but peer educators who are students, will also be on the air to give a nonprofessional input on the questions received.
Also with the series is Wellness Wednesdays*, coordinated by Thorn. This portion of the series is designed to educate students, faculty and staff about specific areas of health and wellness. Experts from campus and the outside community will come in and speak about issues such as sexual responsibility, eating disorders and various other topics.
“We want to create balance for the students between their social life and academics, the S.A.D.E.* show does that” says Thorn.
“The radio program, along with the guest speakers, build great relations with the students and the outside community” Says Kresge. “It's also great for marketing.”
The show's number is (716) 878-5104. For more information on Wellness Wednesdays and the Get Real series contact Kresge in the Alcohol, Other Drugs, and Violence Prevention Office, Lower Level Porter Hall Room 14H, or Thorn at (716) 878-5330.
