Could summer be just around the corner?
By Keaton DePriest

With the snow still falling and the semester several weeks old, the summer sessions at Buffalo State College have been posted on the Web site. The first day of registration for summer courses is April 14, with the first session of classes beginning on June 1.

The summer schedule is:

  • Session A : June 1 – June 26
  • Session B : June 28 – July 24
  • Session C : July 26 – Aug. 14

The semester is young and seeing the college posting the summer schedule on the Web site may make some students feel rushed, but others may disagree.

“I have never really felt like I have been pushed when taking summer classes,” said Kenneth Armstrong, a BSC senior. Armstrong said he had taken summer courses and felt they were concise and to-the-point.

Donna Brooks of the registrar's office at Moot Hall said the advertising of summer classes is usually done early each spring semester by the graduate office.

A reason for advertising this close to the beginning of the semester may be to raise student awareness. Some departments, such as the communication department, believe summer classes are beneficial for students and they should not feel rushed.

“A lot of students aren't aware of the classes we offer in the summer,” said Marianne Mazur, secretary of the communication department at BSC. “May graduates can take summer classes to still graduate in a timely manner.”

Such courses offered by the communication department in the summer are public speaking , communication and society and introduction to oral communications.
