Special Albright-Knox Art Gallery student passes are only for Buffalo State College students . BSC students are the only students who can purchase this discounted pass. Art gallery employee Elizabeth Ross runs the student pass program between BSC and the gallery. The program was started in 1995 for all BSC students, but it originally had certain students in mind.
“It was primarily to serve the art and art history students so they could use the gallery's library freely ,” said Ross.
The G. Robert Strauss Jr. Memorial Library is located in the gallery. The library is used for research by the gallery workers, but it is also open to the public. The $6 student pass allows BSC students to access the library as many times as needed during a semester. The library is open to the public:
- Tuesday through Thursday
- 1 to 5 p.m.
- and has a collection of over 45,000 titles
The gallery quickly realized that all students could benefit from the pass.
“The idea (of the pass) was to make the gallery accessible to students whose time frame and budget might be limited ,” said Ross.
BSC Audience Service Manager Dawn Pustelnik sent out an e-mail to inform students of the deal. Pustelnik also did this last semester and 240 students took advantage of the offer.
“The gallery is mainly looking to help students with this program,” said Ross in reference as to why faculty isn't involved in the program.
Ross considers the program a success and said the gallery would “love to extend the program to other area school.”
“It's such a great-and-getting-better-each-day gallery, that it would be wonderful to have such a program available to more students ,” said Ross.
Until then, the BSC students will have to enjoy this perk for everyone.
