Affordable health insurance for students?

What if you suddenly became sick or were injured, would you be able to afford your medical expenses?
Buffalo State College wants its students to answer “yes,” and is now offering student health insurance coverage. Full- time undergraduate students are eligible. Between now and Aug 13 it's only $405, which is billed to your tuition. The cost does vary, depending on when you enroll. The insurance coverage is being provided through The Chickering Group.
How often does a college student consider the possibility of a medical issue arising? After I asked several students on campus this question, I found two out of 10 students rarely thought about having to deal with a medical problem. One of those same students didn't have health insurance.
Another student I interviewed felt different. Junior Alicia Diaz said: “You never know when you might become sick even if you are in good health. So I think health insurance is important. It could mean life or death.”
According to the Wiegel Health Center: “Health insurance is important in maintaining good health. M any students question the necessity of coverage if they've been healthy.”
Some of the benefits included in BSC insurance coverage are:
- emergency care
- hospital room and board expenses
- surgical expenses
- discounts on vision programs
