Get involved: Homecoming theme contest
By Stefanie Ickowski

The spring semester is just getting off the ground, so next fall's Homecoming is probably the last thing on your mind. However, the Buffalo State College Homecoming Committee is determined to make Homecoming bigger and better , so they want you to think about it now. To help you fast forward past final exams and summer break, it is offering a contest to Buffalo State students, faculty, staff and alumni to name the theme.

The grand prize includes:

  • $50 gift card for Tops Markets
  • $25 gift card for Circuit City
  • Buffalo State sweatshirt
  • free lunch from Wendy's and Mighty Taco

The theme should be “something people can rally around; it should reach a diverse audience and be upbeat and fun,” says Tom Koller , associate athletics director and chair of the homecoming steering committee.

The winning theme will be used in all aspects of Homecoming such as:

  • merchandise
  • advertising
  • parade
  • pep rally
  • tailgate party
  • other events and contests

Homecoming activities will be held from Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 .

Heather Maldonado, assistant director of residence life and homecoming committee member says, “The committee has slowly but surely been rebuilding Homecoming to a major campus event that gets a lot of the campus community involved in the Homecoming events.”

The committee plans on including non-campus organizations in the shopping cart competition, which was very successful last year. They also plan to expand the parade and entertainment offerings, according to Maldonado.

The deadline for the theme contest is March 5 . If you're part of the Buffalo State community and didn't get an entry form for the theme contest, send your contact information and explanation of your idea to kollertc@buffalostate.edu .
