Imagine yourself traveling the world, studying other cultures and getting to hang out in some of the world's most beautiful places. Now imagine if you could do it while you are still in school. You can. The Buffalo State College Office of International Education can send students to Spain, England or Australia . There are over 300 programs in over 50 countries .
Those interested in going overseas can submit their applications, along with a $10 fee to the department's office, room 417, Cleveland Building.
“I had the time of my life,” said Gayle Kraus, who went to Australia through the program.
She said she would definitely recommend studying abroad to others. Kraus said she made it happen for herself, she filled out the application and prepared for the trip on her own.
“The vast majority of students who get to the application stage do in fact participate,” Said LeeAnn Grace, the director of international education.
Some programs require a semester of a language to participate. At some sites, such as Sienna, Italy , students get the opportunity to stay with a host family and be immersed in the culture. While studying overseas, students can take classes in their majors, which are usually taught in English. Those interested in going to Italy can attend an informational meeting - Siena Night will be held at 7:30, on March 3, in the Margaret Grant Lounge in Caudell Hall.
Payment is similar to the NSE program, said Jennifer Hemingway, a study abroad adviser and former participant. If you go overseas on an exchange then you pay Buffalo State College tuition. If no student comes in your place the prices are a little higher, and vary depending on where students are placed.
“It was fantastic,” said Hemingway, who studied at Manchester, England, through the program, “It's a life-changing experience, and it looks really good on a resume.”
