Finding yourself in ‘Faces of Buffalo State College'
By
Stefanie Ickowski
All members of the Buffalo State College campus are invited to participate in a project that celebrates the unity and diversity of the college. Faces of Buffalo State blends art, technology and community to create a piece of art that represents the college as a whole.
The project will feature self-drawn portraits that are combined into a 6-by-7-foot mosaic of Rockwell Hall.
Brian Nesline , a Buffalo State senior and graphic design major, says that the most important part of Faces is “making people aware that this is for them.”
Although it was Nesline who came up with the idea and secured funding from Buffalo State's Auxiliary Services Grant Allocation Committee and the Student Affairs Office, he says “this is totally not my project.”
All members of the campus community, from administration to maintenance, are encouraged to submit their self-portrait. The key to this project is participation . Because of this, there are many ways to get involved:
- Forms can be picked up and dropped off at special drop boxes at any of the seven campus locations :
- Butler Library
- Campbell Student Union
- Ketchum Hall
- Science Building
- Upton Hall
- Student Life office (Campbell Student Union 400)
- Student Affairs office (Cleveland Hall 513)
- Visit the Faces of Buffalo State Web site to print out a form and drop off at one of the locations above, or mail to 28 Whitney Place, Buffalo 14201.
- Come to a special event March 10 , in the Campbell Student Union Assembly Hall between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Mirrors, markers and crayons will be available for students, faculty and staff who want to create their picture between classes or during a break.
Nesline stresses that no artistic skills are needed.
“You don't have to be an artist to be creative,” he says.
The deadline for entries is April 15 . According to Nesline, “this project is a combination of technology, faith, perseverance, and participation.” Faces of Buffalo State needs you in order to be a success.
