The USG Press Services is
available to students to make copies at half the price that
they would normally pay in the library. Unlike the library,
which has several copiers, the press service, in Cassety
Hall 109, has only a single copier, but is somewhat
unknown to students on campus.
The E.H Butler library currently has 8 copiers
available for use, five black and white copiers in the copier
lounge, two black and white copiers in the periodicals room,
and one color copier in the reference room. The copies cost
10 cents a piece and are single sided like the copies in
Press Services.
“We currently offer copies to students
at 5 cents a page, which is half the price that the library
charges at ten cents,” Service Director David Meinzer
explained. “As of now we really don’t get many
students down here, actually only a couple a day if that.”
The service has been maintained by the student
government for more than 25 years. According to the press
services Web site, it provides design and duplicating services
for student organizations primarily funded through the USG,
but no clubs or offices that operate at the Buffalo State
campus are excluded.
How are the copies offered for cheaper
prices?
“USG is funded through the mandatory
activity fee and we are maintained by the USG so basically
the cheaper prices are available because of the students,”
said Meinzer. “Students pay the fee so why not take
advantage of it in any way that they can.”
What do students think?
Most students when asked weren’t even
aware of the existence of press services, but explained
that now that they know of it, they might save a few cents,
especially if their activity fee is partially paying for
the service.
“I think students should take more advantage
of this service,” said sophomore Jennifer Ristovski.
“ I mean, yeah, its only a few cents, but if you need
to make a bunch of copies for a research paper or something
five cents here and there can save you a couple of bucks.”
