Learn how to dress for success
By Jordan Iannuzzelli

Job interviews are a part of every student's future here at Buffalo State College. Choosing the right outfit can be a difficult proposition, but with help students can put together the right clothes to make a great first impression .

The BSC Fashion Association has organized its fifth Dress for Success Fashion Show with this year's theme being “Sweats to Suits.” The show will take place at 12:30 p.m. , March 16 in the Student Union Assembly Hall .

Associate Professor Dr. Cherry Searle teaches in BSC's fashion technology program. Searle, who helped put this year's show together, said that BSC students would model the interview attire.

Searle also said that the show will explain what types of dress should be worn in different interviewing situations. She said that topics would vary from how long a skirt should be to what fabrics to choose to students wearing the proper dark blue, gray and black colored clothing.

Searle said there would be low cost vintage clothing, middle priced bargain clothing and extremely expensive designer clothing.

Searle said that clothing would be provided by:

  • Gap
  • Riverside Men's Shop
  • TJ Maxx
  • Don Apparel

The 5-year-old show began when businesses told the Director of the Career Development Stephanie Zuckerman-Aviles that BSC students weren't dressing properly for interviews . Zuckerman-Aviles went to the Fashion Association with the idea to do a show that would teach students how to dress for interviews .

Zuckerman-Aviles met with the Fashion Association to tell them what types of clothes to use for the show. She said that students have to realize that they are judged the minute they walk into an interview .

“Students make a lot of assumptions about how to dress ,” said Zuckerman-Aviles. “Students don't realize no matter what profession you are in, conservative dress is important .”

The fashion show is made possible by BSC's United Students Government and the mandatory student activity fee.
