Keeping the streets of Buffalo neat
By Christina DeStefano
On April 24th, the 8th annual Buffalo State College/Buffalo Community Service Day will be held. Sign up sheets for this upcoming event will be available toward the end of March. All students, staff and faculty are welcome to participate in this community event. “ It was fun and made me feel good about helping out the community.” said a participant from last year's event.
Professor Fred Howe of the educational foundations department would like students and all those who are interested in participating to know that this is not only a means to help clean up Buffalo but it is also a team project and a chance to meet new people and have a good time in doing so.
"In previous years, we had from 350 to 375 signups for this event and we are hoping to receive the same amount of signups again this year if not more," Howe said. "We do a variety of different and exciting things around Buffalo, and appreciate all of the help from students, staff and faculty. Our main accomplishment is making Buffalo cleaner place for the community.”
All those who sign up will volunteer in building parks on vacant lots in Buffalo, refurbishing 11 of the previously built parks, working with the Olmsted Conservancy, cleaning up along the Buffalo River and Scajaquada Creek and removing graffiti.
