Promoting unity for Today and tomorrow

If you have ever wanted to listen to music from around the world or wonder what a Lebanese dance looks like, then join the International Student Organization for a night of cultural extravaganzas! ISO will be holding its annual International Cultural Fiesta . This event has been held for the past 30 to 40 years and has become a traditional cultural event that shows diversity and invites everyone to witness different art forms from a variety of cultures.

“It is a very unique event because there are so many hidden talents in this school,” stated ISO President Jude Jayatilleke. “We are continuing to do this because it is promoting cultural diversity and it is a night where you can get lots of people to come together.”

This year's theme is “Unity today and tomorrow.”

This event costs $2, which goes toward the United Students Government , and will be taking place in the Rockwell Hall Auditorium on March 13, 2004 from 6-8:30 p.m. It is open to all students, faculty, staff and the general public. The performances include traditional dances from

  • India
  • Guyana
  • Trinidad
  • China
  • Hawaii
  • Lebanon
  • Africa

“We are taking part in the cultural fiesta because we want to show a little bit about the Caribbean culture through a little soca/calypso dance,” said sophomore Nija Marshall who is a member of the Caribbean Student Organization.

Not only will the audience be able to view performance from the different cultures, but they will be able to sample ethnic cuisine as well. After the show there will be an international food buffet held in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall. This will be catered by outside restaurants including foods such as:

  • Caribbean
  • Chinese
  • Indian
  • Italian
  • Spanish
  • vegetarian dishes

“The main thing is to promote diversity among the students, faculty and staff and to get more people involved and to put on a good production,” said Jayatilleke.

This event is being funded by USG and sponsored by ISO, the International Student Affairs Office and the International Student Advisory Council.
