Celebrate “Party Gras” at Buffalo State
By Beth Steinbruckner

This spring there is a little New Orleans in the air at Buffalo State. The Union Bash theme will be Party Gras , a Mardi Gras-like celebration.

The free Union Bash will begin at 6 p.m. on March 26 in the Student Union . There will be many events and free food. It is open to all students, faculty and staff as well as their families.

“We began the Union Bash to provide students with evening and weekend activities,” said Gail Wells, the interim director of student life.

Since the first Bash in fall 2001, she said, there has been an increase in such activities, such as movie nights for students who dorm.

The event is about collaborating between departments and student affairs, said Wells. It's also a fun way to introduce students to all the parts of the Student Union.

There will be many fun events during the night, said Nia Tillett, the graduate assistant for student life.

  • 6 -7:30 p.m. children's portion in the social hall. This will include arts and crafts and food.
  • 8 – 11:30 p.m. there will be a Wiegel Health Center Event in the lower lobby.
  • 8 – 11:30 p.m. a casino will be set up in the Upper Lobby, sponsored by the Student Union Board. Students can play 20 games like black jack and roulette, or learn to deal from a professional casino company. They can win prizes like DVD players and stereos.
  • 8 – 11:30 p.m. bingo will be held in the assembly hall, sponsored by the United Student Government.
  • 9 – 11 p.m. there will be live jazz and rock music performed by students.
  • 9:30 – 10:30 p.m. the LGBA will sponsor a drag show in the social hall.

There will also be booths where students can make their own Mardi Gras masks, Tillett said.

Tillett said she is also looking for any students who wish to volunteer for the event. Students interested can contact her at 878-4631 or e-mail her at Tilling98@buffstate.edu.
