Life's a drag at Buffalo State
By Beth Steinbruckner

This year at the Union Bash, an annual party in the student union, there will be lots of people in dresses, posing and dancing to music, getting judged for prizes. And they'll be men.

The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Alliance is sponsoring a drag show, during the Union Bash , at 9 p.m. on March 26 on the third floor of the Student Union. The Union Bash is held every semester as an event that is sponsored by many campus organizations. It allows students to explore the union and have a good time.

There will be prizes of $100 for first prize, $75 for second prize and $50 for third prize. The contest is judged by the audience, according to LGBA president Nicholas Ruggiero. Any student can enter, he said. There is no cost to the audience, and no reservations are needed.

“It is high energy , sometimes outrageous , and usually great fun ,” Amy Reynolds, the LGBA's staff adviser said. “For some students, it is their first time seeing a drag show and they don't know what to expect.”

A drag show is typically men in women's dresses who perform an act in which they lip-sync to club music, said Reynolds.

Contestants provide their own music, Ruggiero said.

The LGBA has held professional drag shows in the past, said Reynolds, but they were usually associated with Spring Fest, this is the first year the show will be held during the Union Bash.

The drag show will be the highlight of the Union Bash, said Gail Wells, the interim director of student life.
