Buffalo State College's 25-year wait for another All-American swimmer could be nearing an end.
Freshman Nicole Rutkowski , who brought home the school's first two SUNYAC titles Feb. 10 in the one and three-meter high dives, could be on her way to the national championships March 10-12 in Michigan , pending agreement from NCAA officials.
“We have sent in the tapes, and all that is left is just to wait and hope,” said BSC diving coach Amy Sislo.
Officials are judging tapes of Rutkowski's dives to see how she compares with other divers, and a decision could be reached by March 6th. If she is selected, then Rutkowski will be on her way to the national championships at Hope College in Holland , Michigan . An NCAA official said a decision should be reached in the next week before competition begins.
“We are in the process of reviewing the tapes and could come to a decision in the near future,” said an undisclosed NCAA official .
With being selected to compete, Rutkowski would automatically be named an NCAA All-American , becoming the school's first All-American since Judy Elliot was named to the team in 1981.
