Theatre and arts

The French play “Tartuffe” by Moliere was performed by Buffalo State College students in the theatre and arts building. The play ran about two hours long, but audience members said it didn’t seem like the play was that long.

“Was it two hours? I was laughing so much during the play it didn’t seem like it was that long,” said Mike Kutawski, a political science major at BSC.

The wigmaster and costume designers were people brought over from Studio Arena and the expensive wigs is where most of the costume budget went, according to Donn Youngstom, director.

“This was a chance for the actors to do a play in a classical period, wearing these elaborate costumes, where they might not have a chance otherwise and at least these actors now have that experience,” said Youngstom.

Aside from having professional costumes and wigs made, audience members expressed how they liked the content of the play and the actor’s performances:

  • “Out of at least six plays I’ve seen here on campus, Tartuffe was the best by far,” said Larry Hacker, a 36-year-old freshman at BSC.
  • “I thought the actors and actresses all did a really good job,” said Gina Nati, a sophomore at BSC.
  • “It was awesome the actors, the costumes, the wigs and just everything was better that I was expecting,” said Matt Hessel, a theatre-goer.
