About Buffalo State

Buffalo City Guide

It's Going on Here

There's something about a city, something energetic. Buffalo is home to more than 300,000 people and 200 years of history—this is what makes a Buffalo State education so distinctive.

Buffalo Niagara is New York State's second-largest metropolitan area. Here, more than 1 million people enjoy many of the advantages of city life: sports and an array of arts, cultural, and recreational activities.

Arts communities thrive in Allentown and along Elmwood Avenue. On Elmwood Avenue, only minutes from campus, you'll find an eclectic mix of nightlife and distinctive restaurants, shops, boutiques, and architecture.

Architecture and Culture

Buffalo is home to masterpieces by Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Sullivan. H. H. Richardson’s renowned psychiatric center, with its imposing twin gothic towers, commands the skyline directly across from the Buffalo State campus.

Kleinhans Music Hall, considered one of the finest auditoriums in the world, is home base for the noteworthy Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Numerous summer festivals celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Green Spaces

Natural settings for recreation and relaxation include a Frederick Law Olmsted–designed city park system and a network of scenic pathways along canals, creeks, and the Niagara River. Boaters hoist their sails on the waters of lakes Erie or Ontario.

Within an hour’s drive, Letchworth and Allegany State Parks offer gorges, waterfalls, hiking trails, and campgrounds.
