Annual 25-Year-Employees Luncheon

From the Interim President
I am pleased to invite the college community to a luncheon honoring faculty and staff who are in their 25th year of service at Buffalo State College on Tuesday, March 23, at noon in the Tonawanda Castle, 69 Delaware Street in Tonawanda. Reservations will be accepted through Thursday, March 11.

Grading Window Extension

From the Interim Provost
At the request of the College Senate, the grading window—the time period instructors have to submit final semester grades—will be extended. Beginning with the spring 2010 semester, the grading window, which formerly closed at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, will close at 9:00 p.m. on the Wednesday after CEP week.


NYS Teachers Retirement-Planning Seminars

From the Vice President for Finance and Management
The New York State Teachers’ Retirement System will hold two daylong Retirement Planning Seminars in Buffalo to help active NYSTRS members age 45 and older prepare for retirement. Discussions will be devoted to system benefits, financial planning, legal affairs, adjusting to retirement, Social Security, and other pertinent topics. Please note that these seminars are not designed for individual retirement counseling.

Honoraria Reporting

From the Vice President for Finance and Management
To comply with New York State Ethics Commission regulations (Title 19 NYCRR Part 930 of the Public Officers Law), the college is required to annually report honoraria received by full-time faculty and professional and management/confidential employees. An honorarium is defined as “a payment, fee, or other compensation given to an individual for services rendered not related to the individual’s official state duties.” It also includes payment for travel expenses when the expenses incurred are unrelated to the employee’s duties.

The next meeting of the College Senate will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 12, in Classroom Building C122. The meeting agenda contains Old Business/Action Items (from both December 2009 and February 2010) as well as New Business, and is available on the College Senate Web site.


Curricular Submission Deadline, Procedure

From the Chair of the Senate Curriculum Committee
The deadline for all course and program proposal submissions is Monday, March 15. Any submission received after that date will not be reviewed until fall 2010.
